Don't Let Speed Slow You Down

I talked to a former highly competitive runner the other day, who lamented the fact he wasn’t fast anymore. He’s in his 50s and still out there doing races, even if he can’t approach the times he once did.

Local runners will get a chance to take a brief taste an ultra-endurance event at the inaugural American Odyssey Relay Run Adventure April 24 and 25.

The 200-mile, 24-hour race will span three states, starting in Gettysburg, Pa., April 24 and ending in Washington, D.C. the next day. Teams of 12 runners will cover 36 race segments of approximately three to eight miles each.  Each team member will run three times through varied terrain, be it small mountains, covered bridges or the Appalachian Trail. The relay finishes in West Potomac Park near the Lincoln Memorial.

Part of the proceeds from the relay will be donated to the Wellness Community of greater Washington, D.C., an organization dedicated to providing free programs of emotional support, education and hope to people dealing with cancer.

People Burning Fat Productions, the creators of the new relay, also created the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey and the Arizona Odyssey Relay Run, both which are 24-hour relays, as well.

Registration for the Washington, D.C. relay is limited to 150 teams.  For more information, visit www.americanodysseyrelay.com.
