Triathletes in the Northeast have reason to celebrate with the addition of a brand new Ironman 70.3 event scheduled for July 13 in and around Providence, Rhode Island.

Offering a professional prize purse of $25,000 and 50 qualifying slots for pro and age group athletes to the 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3, Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island will attract the region’s best triathletes for a great day of competition through the Ocean State.

The course will utilize a variety of Rhode Island's scenic areas including a swim in the protected waters off Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett,  a majority of the bike course encompasses the quiet, scenic communities of Exeter, West Greenwich, Coventry, North Scituate and Johnston and a two-loop run through downtown Providence, finishing  on the State Capitol grounds. Like the other 28 worldwide Ironman World Championship 70.3 qualifying events, entries for the Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island will go quickly. It’s one of the few events left in 2008 that still has spots open. Register today at www.IronmanRhodeIsland.com.
