You may have heard of the Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race, a prominent North American adventure race held in a different landscape each year. But you may not have heard of the Primal Quest Sprint Series, debuting this year. It is a series of shorter, faster, adrenaline-fueled races.

Officials for the 3rd Annual Nation’s Triathlon to Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society announced Wednesday that the 2008 race is sold out.

Time is running out to register for the eighth annual Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon, presented by SunTrust, before the entry fee increases. Runners and walkers planning to participate in Virginia Beach’s premier running event on August 31, 2008 are encouraged to register by May 15 for the $90 entry fee. After May 15, the entry fee increases to $105 until the event is sold out. The half marathon is limited to 20,000 entries.

Registration for the 33rd Marine Corps Marathon sold out on May 5 at 10:30 p.m. eastern time with 30,000 participants. Registration opened on April 30 for the Oct. 26 event.

Kenyan runner Robert Cheruiyot won his fourth Boston marathon with a time of 2:07:46, less than a minute over his own course record of 2:07:14, to become the fourth man to hold as many titles for the race.

In his first appearance at the USA 100K championships, Michael Wardian of Arlington, Va. triumphed with a time of 6 hours, 56 minutes and 57 seconds.

The word “athlete” seems to take on a new definition when you’re talking about ultramarathoners. Dean Karnazes rose to prominence in 2006 by running 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days.  This year, he is attempting to complete the world’s five major desert foot races in a single calendar year.

Abdi Abdirahman of Tucson, Ariz. successfully defended his national championship title in the USA 10K Men’s Championships at the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K on April 5.

The Battle of the Boulevard 10K is the only road race permitted to run up and down Wilson Boulevard, a main thoroughfare in downtown Arlington, Va. It is also the only large-scale long-distance road race held exclusively in Arlington County. The 2nd running of the race will be held on May 10.
